Jesus’ life was so rich, so grand, so multi-faceted, that no one account could possibly capture everything important about him! Luke chose, as did Matthew, Mark, and John, what he would emphasize, which stories he would include, and even in some cases which order events would be presented to reinforce the message God had placed upon his heart for the world to hear. He couldn’t say everything there was to say about Jesus, but he tried to be faithful to the task. The end result is what we have as “the gospel according to Luke.”

Whether your group will be studying Luke over nine months or nine weeks, our hope is that the dramatic arc of the story, the strong personal impression Jesus makes, and the chosen themes will find their way into your heart.

Mary Holder Naegeli is a minister-at-large in San Francisco Presbytery, working on a Doctor of Ministry degree in “Christian Formation in the Missional Context,” and teaching for Fuller Theological Seminary at its regional centers northern California and Phoenix. Ordained to the ministry in 1987, Mary served two congregations in nineteen years before pausing for a season to focus on academics.

Her passion and expertise developed in the areas of Christian formation, adult discipleship, and small groups, with a spiritual gift of teaching.

Mary has been married to Andy, an engineer-scientist, for over thirty-two years, and they have two twenty-something daughters who live in Seattle, Mary’s hometown.

When down-time is a spiritual requirement, more often than “in her free time”, Mary enjoys quilting, hiking, kayaking and gourmet cooking.
