- Clear understanding of salvation through Christ alone as taught in Scripture
- Confidence in Scripture as the sole authority in matters of life and faith
- Conviction of the clear teaching of Scripture in matters of moral and ethical conduct, and especially for those called to positions of leadership in the Church.
Has PFR abandoned its commitment to renewal?
Never, but we recognize that God’s work of renewal begins with a core identity in Christ, however battered by doubt and apathy.
Is PFR recommending a formal split?
No, but some form of organizational realignment is required to relieve the PC(USA) of its current impasse, to recognize the profound theological differences that have brought the denomination to this point, and to address the burden of conscience borne by many.
Does PFR have a specific proposal?
We have more than one proposal under serious consideration, which will be shared broadly in the coming weeks. PFR expects to present a final plan by Spring 2009. Any proposal will require the assent and support of a broad spectrum of the denomination. Therefore, PFR is issuing a call to the Office of the General Assembly, the General Assembly Council, and others PFR may invite, to work with PFR to explore a way for the PC(USA) to continue in ministry and mission while protecting the convictions listed above.
How can others participate?
- Urgent, sustained prayer is vital.
- Financial support toward PFR is essential to enable the work of formulating a way forward.
- Work within the presbyteries to defeat Amendment B is necessary in order to preserve our current ordination standards.
- Ideas and suggestions regarding specific proposals are encouraged; we will post a public forum in a few weeks at www.pfrenewal.org.
