The Board of Directors of Presbyterians for Renewal,
meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, September 28, 2002,
affirms the following statement:

As members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), we affirm our unity in Christ and our biblical, confessional, and constitutional mandate to recognize our Lord Jesus Christ as Head of the Church. We recognize the continuing challenge we are given to live out our mission as a denomination as stated in the Six Great Ends of the Church.

Since beginning as an organization working for renewal within the PCUSA in 1989, Presbyterians for Renewal has been guided in its mission by the following statement:

As followers of Jesus Christ, seeking to conform our lives and beliefs to the Word of God, our mission is to participate in God’s renewing, transforming work in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

As an organization, Presbyterians for Renewal has sought renewal through ministries of Proclamation, Program, and Prayer.

In response to Christ’s call to oneness, and because of our belief in the one holy, catholic, and apostolic church, we discern God calling us through the Holy Spirit to a time of intercessory prayer for our congregations, governing bodies, and denomination. We today recommit ourselves to a continued and ongoing ministry of intercession for our common life and unity, seeking to pray without prejudice. In this endeavor, we reaffirm that it is not our task to attempt to dictate what God might do in his church.

Affirming the unity of Christ’s church and our common mission in the PCUSA, we call upon our brothers and sisters all across the denomination to join us in working for the peace, purity, and unity of the church. We believe that it is God’s will that we be one, and that we offer prayers for peace, purity, and unity for and in our congregations, presbyteries, synods, and General Assembly.
