Fund for Biblical Faithfulness
PFR is committed to mobilizing leaders and resources swiftly in response to the recent actions of the General Assembly.Your contribution to the Fund for Biblical Faithfulness will enable PFR to move forward with a national effort designed to help presbyteries make faithful decisions about ordination standards over the next ten months. Specifically, a narrow majority of the 218th General Assembly approved an amendment to the Book of Order that would delete the “Fidelity and Chastity” standard for ordination. The presbyteries can - and we believe they will - defeat this amendment.
Further, presbyteries have the opportunity to send to the next GA new proposals that would address the damage caused by the 218th GA’s deletion of several key “authoritative interpretations” of the constitutional standards for ordination (learn more here and here).
To help elders and pastors in their presbyteries, PFR is developing a robust network, holding a series of Regional Gatherings, and is developing special print and online resources. The expenses involved are all “outside the budget,” as it was impossible to predict the radical steps taken by the recent GA. If you would like an itemized budget of this effort, please don’t hesitate to request one.
Fund for Reshaping the PC(USA)
While we must take steps to address the actions of the recent General Assembly directly, we recognize that such efforts are not sufficient in themselves. The unity and witness of the PC(USA) as a denomination has been strained to an unprecedented level. To address the current state of the PC(USA) faithfully, and to enable the faithful witness of our congregations, we actively seek to reshape the life of the denomination. We believe it is necessary for the different visions of Christian faith and life in the PC(USA) to be expressed in formally distinct bodies without a formal split in the denomination.
We are hard at work on various fronts to give our congregations the freedom to be united with each other through presbyteries and synod(s) shaped by a common commitment to faith and our calling to witness to Jesus Christ in the world.
Working to make this a reality is a huge effort, and we need your special financial support. We have established a team uniquely qualified to listen to the voices of our congregations and chart a way forward. In addition to working with presbyteries and the General Assembly, we will build on the relationships we have established over two decades with Presbyterians across the theological spectrum and with the denominational offices. We will make every effort to ensure our congregations have the freedom to be faithful in the PC(USA).
Reshaping the PC(USA) will involve several stages over several years. Your contribution to this fund will make these efforts possible. We invite you to join with us to help reshape the PC(USA) for the 21st century.
